The guessing game · 2-6 players

Everyone guesses.
Someone is way off.

Every round asks one question with a number as the answer. How old is the universe? How many followers does the biggest account in the world have? Everyone locks in a secret guess, then the truth drops. Closest wins the round - way off gets the laughs.

How to play

Three steps, then it runs itself.

Way Off takes under a minute to explain - which is the whole point when half the group has already opened a drink.

Pick your categories

The host opens a round and picks what it's about - general knowledge, history, sports, or the questions about each other.

2

Everyone guesses in secret

One question, one number. How old is the universe? Everyone locks in a guess without seeing what the others typed.

3

The reveal

All guesses line up as bars against the true answer. Closest to the truth takes the round - whoever is furthest is way off.

76 questions about each other

In About you and Deep Talk one player knows the real answer and everyone else guesses. That's where the evening usually derails.

One phone or everyone's phone

Pass a single device around the table completely offline, or open a lobby and let the others join with a room code.

Results as a bar duel

No dry score table: every guess becomes a bar next to the true answer, so you see at a glance who was close and who wasn't.

FAQ

Before the first round.

How many players do we need?

Two to six. Two works as a duel, but the game is at its best from four upwards, because the spread of guesses is what makes the reveal funny.

Does everyone need the app?

No. You can pass one phone around the table - each player types their guess and hands it on. If everyone wants their own device, the host opens a lobby and the others join with a room code.

Does it work offline?

Pass and play works fully offline, so it's fine on a train or in a cabin without reception. Playing on several phones needs a connection for the lobby.

Do I need an account?

No signup, no email, no login. The app opens straight into the game list.

What does it cost?

Nothing. Way Off is part of wayoff., which is free and has no ads and no in-app purchases.

Which languages does it support?

25 languages, including the questions themselves - not just the buttons around them.

Also in the app: Letter Rush - one letter, one word per category, and a group vote on what counts.
